Who we are
Alexucia Thompson, trading as Thompson Surplus (“Thompson Surplus,” “we,” “us”), is the party responsible for personal data processed through this website. Contact details are in our legal notice and in the Contact section below.
What data we collect
- Contact & inquiry forms: name, company, work email, phone, pickup location, and the details you enter about products or surplus.
- Quote & buying requests: item lists, quantities, condition notes, and any attachments or spreadsheets you send.
- Buyer accounts (where offered): login credentials, billing/shipping contacts, order history, and resale/exemption documents.
- Technical data: IP address, device and browser type, and pages viewed, collected via server logs and analytics.
- Communications: emails and call notes exchanged with our sales and buying teams.
Our forms currently open your own email client (mailto), so the message is sent through your email provider; the data you include is processed by us once we receive it.
Why we use your data
- To respond to inquiries, prepare quotes, and negotiate purchases or sales.
- To process orders, arrange shipping or pickup, and provide customer support.
- To verify resale/tax-exemption eligibility and meet accounting and tax obligations.
- To operate, secure, and improve the website and prevent fraud or abuse.
- To send service messages and, with consent where required, marketing such as our newsletter.
Depending on your location, our legal bases include performing a contract, complying with legal obligations, your consent, and our legitimate interest in running a B2B business.
Cookies & analytics
We use strictly necessary cookies to make the site work. Subject to consent where required, we may use analytics cookies (for example a privacy-focused analytics tool) to understand aggregate traffic and improve the catalog. We do not sell personal information.
You can control cookies through your browser settings and, where a consent banner is presented, through your consent choices. Blocking some cookies may affect site functionality.
Newsletter & marketing
If we offer a newsletter, we collect your email on an opt-in basis and use a third-party email service to send it. Every message includes an unsubscribe link, and you can withdraw consent at any time. We do not share newsletter lists for third-party marketing.
Buyer accounts
If you create a business account, we store the information needed to manage your relationship with us: contacts, order and quote history, and uploaded resale or exemption certificates. You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of account data as described under Your rights, subject to records we must retain by law.
Who we share data with
We share personal data only as needed to run our business, including with:
- Logistics & freight carriers to ship goods or arrange pickup.
- Payment processors and banks to take or issue payment.
- IT, hosting, email, and analytics providers acting as our processors under contract.
- Professional advisors (accountants, auditors, lawyers) and insurers.
- Authorities where required by law, or to protect our rights and prevent fraud.
If data is transferred internationally, we use appropriate safeguards required by applicable law.
How long we keep data
We keep personal data only as long as necessary for the purposes above, then delete or anonymize it. Transaction, tax, and accounting records are retained for the periods required by applicable law; inquiry data is kept for a reasonable period to support follow-up and recordkeeping.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. California residents may have rights to know, delete, and opt out of “sale”/“sharing” of personal information; we do not sell personal information. To exercise any right, contact us using the details below. You may also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
